Test systems for monkeypox detection to be developed in Belarus by June 15th

Domestic test systems for the detection of monkeypox will be developed in Belarus by June 15th – as noted by Belarus’ Deputy Healthcare Minister, Chief Sanitary Inspector Aleksandr Tarasenko. He did not rule out that diagnostic agents could be ready earlier, BelTA reports.

The Deputy Healthcare Minister suggested that tests may not be needed, since the risk of importing the infection is minimal.

“We have clarified the schedule once again with the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology. It has been determined that we will have domestic diagnosticums on June 15th,” noted Mr. Tarasenko, supposing that this work could be completed even earlier.

“I think they are unlikely to be useful due to the fact that the risk of importation [infection] is minimal. But we are still on guard,” added the Chief Sanitary Inspector.
