Tasks of prime importance

High production culture and performance discipline: how the Minsk Motor Plant welcomes the Year of Improvement

The President of Belarus has signed Decree No. 1, declaring 2025 as the Year of Improvement. This year marks the beginning of a five-year quality period and envisages a comprehensive set of measures aimed at creating and maintaining a comfortable, safe, modern, and aesthetically pleasing living environment for people. The implementation of improvement measures at the Minsk Motor Plant (MMZ) will be closely monitored by the company’s management. Ivan Bakun, Deputy General Director — Director for Product Quality and Technical Service at the Minsk Motor Plant, has noted that maintaining a culture of production is one of the tasks of prime importance for the enterprise.

“Improvement involves convenient workspace organisation, ensuring order in everything, focus on enhancing the production of quality products and the well-being of staff,” emphasised Ivan Bakun. “The heads of the plant’s departments, together with the production culture committee, are required to analyse the activities of their departments, studying all dependent elements so as to streamline the culture in the workplaces.”
According to Ivan Bakun, timely delivery of blanks and components for the production of the final product — the engine — is extremely important for MMZ, as is their compliance with requirements. This is achievable through strict adherence to the production technology. Therefore, each department of the plant must clearly understand its role in the technological process and, of course, not forget about performance discipline.
“The lean production system 5S — sort, set in order, shine, standardise, and sustain — that has been implemented at MMZ since 2021 allows for increased labour productivity and significantly improves the production process through the rational organisation of workspaces and enhancement of work quality. This saves time and elevates corporate culture,” explained Ivan Bakun.

The Deputy General Director — Director for Product Quality and Technical Service at MMZ added that the efforts of the company’s management, in liaison with the production culture committee, will continue to focus on improving order, workspaces and the enterprise’s territory, “In 2025, the focus of inspections will change. Previously, attention was primarily paid to the organisation and improvement of territories assigned to departments, access routes, as well as issues concerning green spaces. However, in the new year, the priority will be to establish order in production facilities. There will be an increased emphasis on the operation of assembly lines, where components must be supplied hourly for scheduled shift tasks.”
Adherence to work discipline forms the foundation for a cohesive team, where each employee understands and acknowledges their responsibility. Effective management of resources, design documentation, and technological processes impacts the quality of products manufactured by the Minsk Motor Plant, determining its success and competitiveness in the market. Fulfilling all requirements ensures that the enterprise produces goods that meet consumer demand and expectations.
