According to Mr. Dönmez, payments for natural gas in Russian Roubles will reduce the Turkish economy’s dependence on the Dollar. “Türkiye will make 25 percent of payments for natural gas, which it receives from Russia, in Roubles, and the corresponding agreement will enter into force in the near future. Türkiye’s buying of Russian gas for Roubles will cut costs and dependence [of the Turkish economy – TASS remark] on the Dollar,” he said.

As reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan last week. The heads of state then announced that an agreement had been reached that 25 percent of Russian gas supplies to Ankara would be paid for in Russian Roubles.
