Szijjarto: EU should maintain close economic ties with Russia, China
The European Union needs to maintain close business relations with Russia and China, as their rupture, which some politicians are calling for, threatens serious damage to the economy of Europe – as stated by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, TASS reports
At a meeting with representatives of the Hungarian community in the Slovak city of Komárno, the Foreign Minister stressed, “The attempts made in recent years to separate the European economy from the economies of China and Russia cause very serious concerns, as they can cause great damage to Europe.” He also expressed confidence that such attempts are ‘doomed to failure’.
The politician, whose speech was broadcast by M1 TV channel, said, “If you look not at the political, but at the real economic side of life, you can see that the strategic sectors of the Eastern and Western economies can work without each other only with limited success." Therefore, the Hungarian authorities decided to adhere to a strategy of economic neutrality, which implies the development of ties with allies in the West and with partners in the East.
The Hungarian government believes that the correctness of this course is confirmed by the growth of investments in the national economy, amounting to about 23bn Euros over the past two years. This is a good indicator for the country which GDP stands at 206bn Euros.
