Szijjarto: despite Western pressure, Hungary will not refuse oil and gas supplies from Russia
Hungary, despite Western pressure, is not going to refuse profitable oil and gas supplies from the Russian Federation – as stated by the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, at a session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, TASS reports
According to Mr. Szijjarto, despite geopolitical and ideological pressure, Hungary is not ready to abandon the effective partnerships it has in the field of energy supplies.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister added that he was repeatedly asked why the country continues to buy gas and oil from Russia. "When we make a decision to buy energy resources from a certain source, that was not a political decision or a statement on our part," he said, emphasising that this is a practical issue for Budapest.
Mr. Szijjarto pointed out that energy supplies have become hostages of political and ideological situations. "Regardless of all the pressure we have faced over the past two and a half years, Hungary still refuses to consider energy policy as a component of the geopolitical agenda," he stated, adding that energy supplies are an exclusively practical issue for Hungary, and it is ‘determined by physical and mathematical parameters’.
