Supreme Court found punisher Vinnitsky guilty of genocide of Belarusian people: he brutally killed 400+ BSSR residents
The Supreme Court of Belarus has announced today the verdict in the case of punisher Osip Vinnitsky: he was found guilty of genocide of the Belarusian people
After the verdict was announced, state prosecutor Kirill Chubkovets commented to reporters that the present court decision was a tribute to the heroic deed of the civilian population, which suffered enormous losses during the Great Patriotic War, but remained unconquered.
“The criminal case established 17 episodes of Vinnitsky's criminal activity as part of the 118th punitive battalion. Evidence of his personal guilt in the commission of brutal murders of over 400 residents of the BSSR, including 146 children, was collected. Of course, it is very important that Vinnitsky's actions, which have no statute of limitations, have received an appropriate legal assessment. Not only from the point of view of morality, but also from the point of view of the law, we can assert now that Vinnitsky was not a hero of the liberation movement and not a freedom fighter (as he is represented in some foreign media). He was a brutal murderer of women and children, a punisher who swore allegiance to the regime of Nazi Germany," Mr. Chubkovets stated.
The state prosecutor noted that each episode of Vinnitsky's criminal activity had been extremely cruel, “Along with the massacre of civilians in Khatyn, he was engaged into other punitive actions. There were 17 episodes in total. At least nine villages and their residents were destroyed by Vinnitsky and his subordinates. His criminal activities defy any understanding, as the massacres of civilians were extremely brutal and cruel.”
Mr. Chubkovets expressed confidence that the fact of the decision regarding the Vinnitsky conviction will serve to achieve the goal of preserving the historical truth and protecting the memory of the price paid by the Belarusian and Soviet people in general for the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
