Belarusian team secured third place overall with 122 medals at the 3rd CIS Games
The President of Belarus’ National Olympic Committee (NOC), Viktor Lukashenko, congratulated the athletes and coaches on their successful performance at the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan. The NOC President noted that the Belarusians demonstrated high-level preparation and confirmed their status as one of the strongest teams in the Commonwealth of Independent States. “Your talent, rigorous training and dedication to your goals were the key to your success. I would like to express special gratitude to the coaches and administrative staff of the teams. Without your dedication, patience and commitment to the cause, our athletes would not have achieved such high results,” said the NOC President. “I wish you good health, good luck, bright achievements on the path to your cherished dreams, as well as to reach even greater sporting heights.”
3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan
Belarusian athletes became medal winners in all the sports they participated in. In total, the team secured 32 gold, 38 silver and 52 bronze medals. The most medals (35) were won in swimming (4–15–16). Usevalad Sarakavik clinched two victories at the multi-sport event. Kayak and canoe rowers proved to be the leaders in terms of gold medals (9), also securing one second and one third place. Emil Abalmasau and Artsiom Vaitseshyn each climbed to the top step of the podium three times. Trampoline jumpers won six gold and one silver medal, with Yana Lebedeva becoming a three-time champion.Our athletes captured eight medals each in wrestling (4–3–1) and judo (2–2–4), and seven each in taekwondo (3–2–2) and table tennis (0-1-6). Five prize-winning places were taken in karate (1–0–4), badminton (0–1–4), boxing (0–1–4) and rhythmic gymnastics (0–5–0). Belarusian athletes finished in the top three four times in both academic rowing (2–1–1) and shooting (0–1–3), and secured two medals each in archery (1–0–1), volleyball (0–2–0), 3x3 basketball (0–1–1), sambo (0–1–1) and fencing (0–0–2). Furthermore, the junior national football team took one bronze.
In the medal standings, Belarus’ team took third position among thirteen participating countries. The delegation from Russia topped the table with 231 medals overall (130–61–40), while the competition hosts from Azerbaijan took second place with 184 awards (33–56–95). Representatives from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Türkiye also became prize-winners, while athletes from Cuba, Kuwait and Oman finished without medals this time. In total, more than 1,600 athletes under the age of 23 took part in the 3rd CIS Games.
