State Secretary of Security Council: Belarus’ Armed Forces, other military structures annually adopt up to eighty latest models

The quality rather than an increase in the size of the army or the number of the military equipment is the major focus of the Armed Forces of Belarus – as noted by Aleksandr Volfovich, the State Secretary of the Security Council, following his today’s report to the Head of State on the inspection of military units, BelTA reports

When asked by journalists to what extent the Armed Forces meet the requirements of the time, Mr. Volfovich stressed that the Belarusian army has the most modern military equipment in service. At the same time, the emphasis is not on increasing its number or the size of the Armed Forces (as is the case with Belarus' western neighbours). Nevertheless, the army is regularly supplemented with the latest weapons and equipment.

"I can say that about 80 new types of weapons and military equipment are adopted by the Armed Forces and other military structures of the state annually. We have everything we need to effectively protect our beloved Belarus," the State Secretary assured.

Mr. Volfovich added that Belarus’ Armed Forces have the most modern Su-30SM2 aircraft, Mi-35 helicopters, Tor-M2K complexes, and BTR-82, and their tanks have been upgraded to the T-72B2 and T-72B3 levels. He also noted the Rosa radar stations and domestic unmanned aerial vehicles – such as Chekan and Mirotvorets, for example.

As noted by the State Secretary, electronic warfare and drone countermeasures are being developed as well, “This is also very important. Electronic warfare equipment and the ability to use it are probably even more important today to protect troops and critical infrastructure of the state."

"Our task is to be able to defeat our enemy not with quantity, but with quality. Therefore, the emphasis is on quality, on the modern means of armed struggle that are currently being produced by our enterprises in the defence sector of the economy," Mr. Volfovich outlined the key principle.
