State of emergency declared in Nur-Sultan

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym Jomart-Tokayev, has signed today a decree imposing the state of emergency in Nur-Sultan, TASS reports

“Amid a serious and immediate threat to citizens’ safety, in order to ensure public safety, restore law and order, protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, a state of emergency is introduced within the borders of the city of Nur-Sultan from 4pm of January 5th, 2022 to midnight of January 19th, 2022,” the Presidential decree reads.

Along with this, a curfew is being introduced in the capital for the duration of the state of emergency. It will be in effect from 11pm to 7am.
