State Border Committee: Poland's ban on movement of trucks to worsen European business situation

The State Customs Committee has commented on the introduction by the Polish side of a complete ban on the movement of all types of Belarusian and Russian cargo vehicles, including trailers and semi-trailers, across the Belarusian-Polish border which is coming into force from June 1st

The State Border Committee reminded that the entry of heavy haulers registered in Belarus and Russia into the territory of the EU has been prohibited since April last year.

“The Belarusian side promptly adopted a retaliatory measure that banned the entry of haulers registered in the EU countries into the territory of Belarus, but allowed the development of foreign economic activity of both sides to be maintained through the implementation of trailer hooking and transhipment of goods,” the source commented.

The State Border Committee explained that Poland’s regulation prohibits EU business entities from hooking Belarusian and Russian vehicles up. “Transhipment of goods is still allowed, but this operation is costlier – both in terms of time and money. This, in turn, will further aggravate the state of affairs in the European business.”

As noted by the source, the Belarusian customs will take all necessary measures to promote the development of foreign economic activity, the maximum possible clearance of transport at the customs border, as well as the effective implementation of customs control in the current conditions.
