In an interview with La Sexta TV channel, the head of the Spanish Foreign Ministry said, “I hope that this will not be a chronic conflict and will not be a second Afghanistan.”

Moreover, José Manuel Albares Bueno commented on the recent initiative of the Brazilian government to resolve the situation.

“Spain studies, supports and seizes every opportunity to return peace to Ukraine, peace in accordance with the UN Charter,” said the head of the Spanish foreign affairs department.

Earlier, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that the current mediators ‘have nothing to offer’ to the parties to the Ukrainian conflict, and proposed developing a new international format to create the possibility of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. Moreover, the Brazilian leader announced his readiness, if necessary, to mediate in direct negotiations with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
