Shoigu: Union State Security Concept necessary in difficult global conditions
The Union State Security Concept has become a necessity in difficult global conditions – as stated by the Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, TASS reports
"In today's difficult conditions, the implementation of a co-ordinated policy in international affairs is objectively necessary, and the Union State Security Concept approved on April 28th, 1999 lost its relevance. In this regard, on April 6th, 2023, the presidents of Russia and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Aleksandr Lukashenko, adopted a resolution of the Supreme State Council of the Union State on the development of a fundamentally new document," Mr. Shoigu said.
The Secretary of Russia’s Security Council added that the concept is a strategic planning document, “It provides an assessment of the security situation in the world and on the borders of the Union State, defines the official approaches of the Union State member states (Russia and Belarus) to ensuring security in all its dimensions. The document takes into account the rich experience accumulated by our countries in countering the plans of external and internal destructive forces for the collapse of the Union State, as well as the severance of traditional ties between the fraternal Russian and Belarusian peoples. Moreover, it establishes common strategic goals, defines priorities, and sets specific tasks."
According to Mr. Shoigu, the foundations for the formation of a co-ordinated policy of the two countries in the field of ensuring the security of the Union State and the principles on which this policy will be based have been significantly strengthened, including co-ordination of activities to ensure international security, closer military co-operation, joint activities in the field of public security, ensuring the realisation of citizens' rights in the social sphere. development of economic, scientific and technical integration, ensuring information, environmental and biological safety, protection of traditional values, cultural heritage and the common historical space.
