As posted by the South Korean company POSCO International on its website on September 5th, the ship with 61,000 tonnes of corn left the Ukrainian port on August 16th, and it will arrive in South Korean Incheon at the end of September. “The entire cargo will be used as fodder, and this will contribute to the stabilisation of feed prices,” the company – which is a subsidiary of the POSCO steel giant – explained, adding, “This delivery demonstrates that private firms are able to contribute to ensuring food security and price stabilisation through the supply of cereals to the domestic market from abroad.”

POSCO International noted that it had been monitoring ‘the progress in Russia-Ukraine negotiations on safe sea routes for supplies’.

The South Korean company owns an export terminal in the city of Nikolayev. Its operation was suspended after Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began, but was partially resumed in June. Based on current data, the object ‘has not been directly damaged’, POSCO International stressed.

On July 22nd, agreements were signed in Istanbul to solve the problem dealing with supplies of agricultural products to world markets.
