Shevchenko about Ukraine’s losses after Maidan
Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Yevgeny Shevchenko, shared his views with ONT TV channel regarding the losses of Ukraine after the events of the Maidan
“Maidan itself did not carry anything bad, when people came out and wanted European integration. Viktor Yanukovych, being president, was considered to be a great European integrator. People in Belarus maybe don’t know this and think that he ‘was pulling’ Ukraine to Russia. But no, just the opposite. It is Yanukovych who is to blame for the fact that Maidan appeared as a phenomenon. After all, both he and his fellow party members publicly declared that we were going to Europe. They motivated the population. Then Yanukovych went to Vilnius to sign the relevant documents but refused to integrate which provoked resentment. That is, a person kept repeating one thing for three years, and did another,” he said.
Mr. Shevchenko spoke about the losses of Ukraine after the events of the Maidan, “The worst thing is that we lost people who died. Secondly, people were divided, families broke up. After that they began to encroach on history. Of course, we also suffered serious economic and territorial losses. Maidan brought only losses,” he added.
