Sergeyenko: Western ideologists long crossed all possible boundaries

The Head of the President Administration, Igor Sergeyenko, delivered a speech at today’s plenary session of the Historical Memory: Great Victory Won by Unity international parliamentary conference, noting that the collective West is transforming historians into a tool for shaping political reality

“Not objective coverage of facts but their potential for a social impact is becoming increasingly important. The infrastructure of the so-called institutes of national memory is now spread across Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic States; their activity is clearly anti-Belarusian, anti-Russian, and generally anti-Soviet. This applies to the nations that honour the memory of the Great Patriotic War,” Mr. Sergeyenko stated.

According to the Head of the Belarus President Administration, the collective West now aims to discredit our heroes, while belittling the dignity of great personalities and the people as a whole – ‘differently speaking, to take away from us everything on which the national state identity is built’. “These are traditions, culture, memory, and also an understanding of the place and role in the historical process. Western ideologists have long crossed all possible boundaries. Earlier, their activity was of a permanent character – [involving] guides, books and one-time promotions. Meanwhile, at present, we are faced with undisguised large-scale aggression, which is partly due to the IT development. Reaching the target audience with help of social networks makes it possible to promote massive propaganda of various pseudo-historical concepts. There was no such brazen, unprincipled pressure that we have faced even in most difficult times of the Cold War,” Mr. Sergeyenko stressed.
