Sergeyenko: Belarus’ National Assembly gaining observer status in Asian Parliamentary Assembly to be landmark event
The 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), to be held in February, will consider granting the Parliament of the Republic of Belarus an observer status in this international organisation – as stated by Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko during today’s meeting of the second session of the House of Representatives
Mr. Sergeyenko recalled that last week the House of Representatives’ Council approved the plan of international parliamentary co-operation of the House of Representatives for 2025. In line with it, a number of important international events are scheduled for February.
“These days in Moscow, the chairmen of the House of Representatives standing commissions on foreign affairs and on national security are taking part in a meeting of chairmen of parliamentary commissions of the CSTO member states, whose competence includes international relations, defence and security issues. In February, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Ipatov, as a member of the delegation of Belarus’ National Assembly, will take part in the Executive Council meeting and the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Baku. The issue of granting the Parliament of Belarus an observer status in this international organisation will be considered,” the Speaker of the House of Representatives said.
He expressed confidence that Belarus’ National Assembly getting the status of an observer in such a representative international organisation would become another landmark event in the history of Belarusian parliamentarism.
“This month our delegation is also planning to take part in the 24th Winter Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. In addition, the deputies will soon participate in the meetings of the commissions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Minsk and Moscow,” Mr. Sergeyenko added.
