Sergeyenko: Belarus appreciates current level of friendly relations with Kyrgyzstan

Belarus values the current level of friendly relations with Kyrgyzstan – as stated by the Chairman of the House of Representatives, Igor Sergeyenko, during his today’s meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Belarus, Erbol Sultanbaev

Mr. Sergeyenko stressed that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1993, “But, probably, there are still the relations that have tied us since the Soviet times in the memory of all generations.” He added that a lot has been done in the bilateral format over the years of Belarus’ independence, “The dialogue at the highest level has been intensified. Our heads of state have established a relationship of trust. Meetings are regularly held at various international venues. Mutual support is organised at the international level on different issues. This is especially important in today's turbulence and military-political tensions.”

Mr. Sergeyenko congratulated the Kyrgyz side on an important stage, the beginning of a responsible mission: the CSTO chairmanship. He stressed that Belarus also expects to step up co-operation within the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation, taking into account its new status in SCO. The Chairman of the House of Representatives called for mutual support for each other on other international platforms.

Mr. Sergeyenko also noted that last year alone he had three meetings with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Chairman of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic Turgunbek uulu Nurlanbek. He conveyed greetings and best wishes to his colleague, and also expressed hope for a meeting this year within the framework of the events of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. “We also look forward to intensifying co-operation at the level of friendship groups – perhaps with the participation of deputies and ambassadors, in an online format first. There are many topics of both humanitarian co-operation and economic development," Mr. Sergeyenko emphasised.

This year is special: the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War is celebrated in 2025. The Chairman of the House of Representatives noted that, at the summit of the CIS heads of state in Moscow on October 8th, 2024, an appeal was adopted to the peoples of the Commonwealth and the world community in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, regarding the assessment of the historical significance of this date and the preservation of the historical memory of that great war.

“Minsk reveres the memory of your countrymen who died and were awarded high titles. A street in Minsk is named after Hero of the Soviet Union Dzhumash Asanaliev, who tragically died during the liberation of Belarus. There are a lot of such vivid examples. It is our sacred duty to preserve this memory. Your famous countryman, Chingiz Aitmatov, coined the word ‘mankurt’ – a man who has lost touch with his historical, national roots, who has forgotten about his kinship, who does not remember his Motherland and his history. Our sacred duty, including relying on the valuable literary wealth, is to preserve this in the memory of our peoples," Mr. Sergeyenko stated.
