This year, search teams are investigating almost 190 places of destruction and mass burial of Belarusians during the Great Patriotic War – as noted by Sergei Kornev, Head of the Department for Perpetuating Memory of the Fatherland Defenders and War Victims of the Armed Forces

Mr. Kornev announced some figures: i.e. 163 objects are to be studied this year as part of field search operations in places of battles, and 25 objects – as part of the investigation of the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. Some of them have already been examined, and the expert reported on the interim results of the work done.

“A total of 59 objects have been researched this year. To date, we have discovered 565 bone remains – belonging to Red Army soldiers, civilians, and two members of the resistance. Twelve persons have been identified: ten Red Army soldiers and two civilians killed by the Nazis,” the expert informed, adding that 200+ explosive objects, 25 small arms and more than 400 rounds of ammunition have been unearthed. Moreover, five soldiers' medallions and six awards have been found at the search sites, and those five finds have made it possible to establish information about the dead servicemen.
