Commenting on the Chinese initiative, Mr. Kopylov noted that serious changes are taking place in the world, “Our world is full of conflicts and complexities, facing numerous crises, challenges and threats. This initiative focuses on positive efforts to unite countries that support peaceful solutions, aiming to bring together the world and the international community around very simple ideas. These include respecting sovereignty, honouring the rights of states to self-determination, and rejecting policies that impose or moralise upon independent states. Actually, this is the core of the concept, which is becoming increasingly important amid attempts by some countries to discredit and dominate the world. Such approaches belong to the past. This, in essence, is what makes this initiative highly constructive.”

Recollecting the summit in Tianjin, the SCO Deputy Secretary General emphasised that important economic decisions had been taken.

“A highly significant set of economic measures was agreed upon, covering transport, logistics, agriculture, green development and digital economy. The member countries involved made a key decision to create a financial institution, the SCO Development Bank. Naturally, all these initiatives will require thorough expert analysis. We have twenty-nine mechanisms at the departmental leadership level that consistently work on implementing the leaders’ decisions. Certainly, there is much work ahead, primarily focused on advancing the economic growth of our organisation. And what does economic development mean? Ultimately, it is simply about improving the well-being of our people,” Mr. Kopylov added.
