SCO can replace OSCE, political scientist believes
In his talk to Alfa Radio, political scientist Piotr Petrovsky said Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) can replace Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)
The programme host noted that international organisations have not yet spoken out on the refugee crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border, asking his guest, “Will time come eventually when they stop ignoring it?”
“Do you remember what Americans were doing in Vietnam? Which international organisation raised this issue then? There was no one. International organisations kept aloof and, at present, they are silencing the crimes committed by the Polish leadership. Crimes are committed by the right people, from their point of view, and therefore these actions are not viewed as crimes. This is the logic. Therefore, it’s no need to expect from international organisations any steps in this direction. We should not even think that they will start defending really objective international laws and obligations. None of this will happen,” Mr. Petrovsky said.
Speaking of whether the existing organisations will get stronger in the context of global geopolitics or whether new ones will be created to take on this role, the political scientist noted, “It seems to me that we need to raise the status of organisations such as the SCO which actually can replace the OSCE. It will be an objective organisation rather than a bugbear that currently exists within the OSCE.”
Mr. Petrovsky added, "I would not look at organisations so much, but think how to form a new international field jointly with Russia and China that would protect our interests, implement them, and not be ‘a club of the West’.”
