Science contributes to economy
470+ scientific developments to be implemented this year in Belarus
The country's socio-economic development programme for 2021-2025 envisages sci-tech projects, innovative infrastructure and projects of the future. Sergei Shcherbakov, the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology, comments, “We’ve focused our resources on 14 sci-tech programmes which correspond to the priorities of sci-tech innovative development approved by the relevant Presidential decree. Special attention will be paid to environmental safety and introduction of ‘green’ technologies into the economy – to enhance its competitiveness. About 340 tasks are already being performed as part of the programmes and many of them are transitioning from the past five-year period.”
In turn, the Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), Andrei Ivanets, tells us of the NAS projects, “We act as a large research and production corporation – generating new scientific ideas, developing technologies and experimental samples, and putting them into production. Fundamental scientific research is the basis for further practice-oriented and innovative projects.”
Development and implementation of all novelties into the real sector of the economy are conducted in close co-operation with all Belarusian branches and enterprises.
“In 2021, more than 470 developments of the NAS scientists are being implemented. They cover a wide range of spheres and we assume that industrial production based on them will generate at least $700m this year,” adds Mr. Ivanets.
