Sasnovich reached 1/8 finals of Melbourne tennis tournament

Aliaksandra Sasnovich (WTA: 107) made it to the 1/8 finals of Melbourne Summer Set 2. At the 1/16 finals, the third racket of Belarus defeated Chinese Wang Xinyu (WTA: 101) – 6:4, 6:2.

Both tennis players are close to each other in the WTA ranking and show comparable results, on the basis of which, before the game, their chances of success were assessed approximately the same. However, Aliaksandra Sasnovich achieved a fairly confident victory.

She made a break in the fifth game, immediately after that she could not keep her own serve, but at the end of the first set she again did well at the return and closed the game.

In the second set, the advantage of the representative of the Belarusian tennis school was beyond doubt. She made two breaks, did not concede any of her serve and put the victorious point.

The Belarusian athlete got out of the qualification in the main draw of these competitions, which belong to the WTA 250 category and have a prize fund of $239,477. In the qualification she consistently knocked out Australian Olivia Tjandramulia (WTA: 521) – 6:2, 6:3 and Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (WTA: 118) – 7:5, 6:1. In the 1/8 finals, Aliaksandra Sasnovich will face Rebecca Peterson from Sweden (WTA: 88).

Meanwhile, the tournament path of Aryna Sabalenka (WTA: 2) at another major tennis tournament, in Adelaide, turned out to be short. Thanks to a high rating, the Belarusian missed the first stage, but in the 1/8 finals she unexpectedly lost to Slovenian Kaja Juvan (WTA: 100) – 6:7 (6:8), 1:6.

Nevertheless, Victoria Azarenka (WTA: 27) continues to compete at these competitions, defeating Paula Badosa of Spain (WTA: 8) – 6:3, 6:2 – and now preparing for the 1/8 finals match against Australian Priscilla Hon (WTA: 263).

The tournaments in Melbourne and Adelaide are the stages of preparation of tennis players for the Australian Open.
