Sanctions policy of West aimed at blitzkrieg failed

As stated by Aleksei Avdonin, an analyst with the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies, in his talk with 1st Channel of the Belarusian Radio, sanctions policy of the West – focused on change of power – failed

The expert asserts that political establishment of the West thought they were in some kind of isolation. According to Mr. Avdonin, that was their major problem.

“They believed the imposed sanctions against Russia will be short-term. They hoped that these measures would lead to protest movements in Russia, Belarus and China aimed at changing the government. In this way they could have achieved their goals – but that did not happen. It has appeared that Russia, Belarus, and China are strong economically, and they have enough resources to withstand these sanctions. As a result, the sanctions policy – which was focused on a blitzkrieg and change of power – failed, while the western countries and ordinary citizens are now suffering from these sanctions measures,” the expert explained.

Mr. Avdonin believes it will further get worse, and strong protest movements are possible in European countries, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
