Russian Health Ministry registered Skyvira drug for coronavirus

The Health Ministry of the Russian Federation has registered a new drug against coronavirus infection Skyvira, created on the basis of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir, by the pharmaceutical company Promomed, TASS reports

“A new drug for targeted etiotropic therapy of COVID-19 based on nirmatrelvir and ritonavir, created by Promomed Group of Companies using a unique technology, received a registration certificate on April 21st, 2022,” reads the company’s press service.

According to Vladimir Chulanov, the lead infectious diseases specialist of the Russian Health Ministry, clinical studies of the new drug have shown a pronounced antiviral effect in the treatment of coronavirus infection, as well as reducing the risk of disease progression to more severe forms and speeds up recovery.

“The directed mechanism of action on the viral protease determines the success of treatment, regardless of the SARS-CoV-2 strain. At the moment, Skyvira, manufactured by Promomed, can be indicated for outpatient treatment of mild or moderate coronavirus infection among adults,” explained Mr. Chulanov.
