Russian expert: Lukashenko was equal to the occasion
Russian experts applauded the Belarusian President for his absolutely clear, understandable and honest position – as Igor Korotchenko, the Director General of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies (Russia), told BelTA while commenting on the recent CSTO online summit
"Two speeches at the recent CSTO online summit were the key ones: by Vladimir Putin and Aleksandr Lukashenko. Due to the situation, Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] spoke very diplomatically, while Aleksandr Grigoriyevich was brutally honest. We, Russian experts, simply applauded the Belarusian President in Moscow for his absolutely clear, understandable and honest position. He said quite clearly that it is not necessary to pit the CSTO against Azerbaijan. This is a fraternal country for us, it is a CIS member. Aleksandr Lukashenko described Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in sincere words, saying that he is our man. The Belarusian leader was equal to the occasion,” Mr. Korotchenko said.
The Director General of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies added that the President of Belarus correctly said about the need to resolve controversial issues in the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan with Russia’s mediation. They need to be settled through negotiations, and political and diplomatic solutions to the current situation should be found.
