Russian cosmonaut sets record for the most time spent in space
On February 4th, Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko set a world record for total time spent in space, surpassing his compatriot Gennady Padalka, who logged more than 878 days in orbit, Reuters reports
According to Roscosmos, Oleg Kononenko broke the record at 11 hours 30 minutes 8 seconds [Moscow time]. He is expected to reach a total of 1,000 days in space on June 5th and 1,110 by the end of September.
“I fly into space to do what I love, not to set records. I am proud of all my achievements, but I am most proud that the record for the total duration of human stay in space is still held by a Russian cosmonaut,” Kononenko told TASS in an interview from aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Roscosmos reported that the 59-year-old cosmonaut surpassed Padalka, who gained 878 days 11 hours 29 minutes and 48 seconds.
