Russia’s Foreign Ministry: Belarus might deploy nuclear weapons

If the United States and NATO refuse to discuss with Russia its proposals on security guarantees, then all possible retaliatory measures will be considered, and much depends on western countries’ reaction – as stated by Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrey Rudenko, when commenting on the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons in Belarus, RIA Novosti reports

Earlier, the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Minsk would offer Russia to place nuclear weapons on its territory if NATO takes a similar step in Poland. Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said that the Belarusian leader’s statement should be taken as a warning to the West. Last week, Belarus’ Foreign Minister, Vladimir Makei, said in an interview with RT Arabic that Minsk is considering a possibility of deploying nuclear weapons on its territory if the North Atlantic Alliance poses a threat.

"All issues are considered in a complex. We have heard such proposals from our Belarusian allies. All possibilities will be considered but much – as I have already said – will depend on the reaction that we expect to receive from the United States and NATO," Mr. Rudenko told RIA Novosti.
