Russia insists on Belarus' involvement in talks with Ukraine
Russia stands for Belarus to take part in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine as a guarantor state – as informed by the Director of the Second CIS Department of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, Alexey Polishchuk, TASS reports
“It is not just that Moscow does not rule out Minsk’s participation in the agreement. We openly insist that the Republic of Belarus become a party to future agreements and a guarantor state. Thanks to this, it will be possible to ensure a balance within the ‘club’ of such countries," Mr. Polishchuk explained, adding that this proposal has already been discussed with Belarus which contributes in every way to the negotiations by providing a platform for such talks.
The first negotiations of the delegations of Russia and Ukraine on a Ukrainian conflict started on February 28th in Belarus’ Gomel Region, and further meetings were held in Belovezhskaya Pushcha and the Brest Region. Later, communication continued in the format of a videoconference. On March 29th, representatives of the two countries held a meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.
