Reuters: about 1,250 American tanks and armoured vehicles transferred to Europe
Approximately 1,250 American tanks and armoured vehicles are arriving at the Dutch port of Vlissingen in January – to be further redeployed to Poland and the Baltic States, TASS reports
According to Reuters, Abrams M1 tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles of the 2nd Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division located in Fort Hood, Texas, are being transferred to Eastern Europe.
This move is part of ‘a planned reinforcement’ of NATO combat groups on the eastern flank of the Alliance, three of them are stationed in the Baltic States and one each in Poland, Romania, and Bulgaria.
As recalled by the agency, at the Madrid summit last June, NATO countries decided on a long-term deployment of significant multinational combat forces – with American military as their backbone – near Russia’s borders. They said then that they had no plans to directly participate in the Ukrainian conflict, but promised to continue providing military assistance to Kiev.
