Refugee children taught their first lessons at mobile educational centre

First classes for refugee children held at a mobile educational centre which opened at the transport and logistics centre, BelTA reports

Today is the 47th day of refugees’ staying at the border. About 600 people, including many women and children, are now accommodated at the Bruzgi transport and logistics centre near the Belarusian-Polish border. A mobile educational centre began its work today here – organised by the Main Education Department of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee and UNICEF.

Two heated modules with the necessary stationery materials and multimedia equipment, including Internet connection, are used to host classes. Drinking water and fruits are available.

"Teachers and psychologists from Grodno, as well as volunteers from among the refugees, have started working. The emphasis is primarily placed on psychological work and relief of children through classes and games," Ruslan Abramchik, the Head of the Main Education Department of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee, explains.

On the first day, organisation processes are actively underway, the order of children's attendance is scheduled, and groups are formed.

Classes will be firstly organised for primary school boys and girls. Mr. Abramchik notes that video tutorials will be prepared in their native language. The subjects for teaching have been agreed with the Iraqi representatives of UNICEF. "These are primarily mathematics, native and foreign languages, natural science and drawing. These disciplines can be cognised by children of similar age groups when studying together," he adds.

The school will operate as long as necessary.
