Putin arrived in Minsk to take part in Union State Supreme State Council meeting
Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Minsk to attend a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State. The Russian leader’s plane landed at Minsk National Airport, BelTA reports.
Earlier, other participants of the meeting arrived in Minsk, including members of the Supreme State Council from the Russian side: Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly Valentina Matvienko. Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin was also supposed to take part in the session, but earlier Russian media reported that he had tested positive for coronavirus, and therefore would not be able to attend the event in Minsk.
The meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State will be held in Minsk on December 6th under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Union State Aleksandr Lukashenko. It will be attended by heads of state and government, heads of the chambers of the two countries’ parliaments, who are members of the Supreme State Council.
The event is taking place on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Union State Treaty. Its participants will consider the progress in the implementation of the Guidelines for Implementing the Provisions of the Treaty Establishing the Union State for 2024-2026 and the prepared Union State Security Concept.
The meeting of the Supreme State Council will also consider a number of other issues in various fields that are important for the lives of both citizens themselves and the work of the Union State economic sectors. The discussion will focus on the formation of a unified electricity market and cancellation of roaming in the Union State. The agenda also includes issues related to consumer protection and countering illegal import of goods into the Union State. The issue of organising and holding events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War will be also tackled.
