Prosecutor General: sooner or later, Belarus’ truth to sprout in the West
New facts about the investigation of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War and ways to familiarise Western officials with them have recently been voiced by Belarus’ Prosecutor General Andrei Shved in his talk with the Belarus 1 channel
In particular, Mr. Shved reported, “Unfortunately, we are discovering new tragic places regularly. To date, more than a hundred of them need to be examined, investigative actions need to be carried out, the remains need to be buried, and the sites are to be properly restored. The most important task is to tell people the truth about each of these places and create conditions for people – especially our children – to visit them. This is also being done through books, and the first two editions were earlier handed over to the President.”
As noted by the Prosecutor General, these books are printed in Russian and English, following the President’s instruction. “In 2021, the Head of State ordered to send them abroad, and we have been fulfilling this task by sending books to officials of a number of foreign countries: to the prosecutors general of the International Association of Prosecutors (which unites more than 100 countries), to parliamentarians (through our Parliament), and to other officials through our Foreign Ministry – for them to read and know the truth. Some of our publications have already reached German officials, and its Prosecutor General has sent me several messages after studying this book. The truth is a very powerful weapon. Sooner or later, it will sprout there, in the West,” he said.
Mr. Shved added, “By the way, the President was the first to see and realise the scale of this process. I remember well how, after the first report, he said: you can hardly imagine what a serious work needs to be done. This task is to be fulfilled: people need to know the truth.”
