Prosecutor General’s Offices of Belarus and Russia to join forces in investigating facts of genocide of Soviet people

The General Prosecutor’s Offices of Belarus and Russia have set up a joint working group to establish the circumstances of the genocide of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War – as reported by BelTA

Prosecutor General of Belarus Andrei Shved addressed his colleague, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov with an initiative to create a joint working group to investigate the facts of the genocide of the Soviet people during WWII. On April 13th, an order was signed by the Prosecutor General’s Offices of Belarus and Russia on the establishment of such a group.

“The importance of the legal and moral aspect of the tragedy experienced by the Soviet people, the preservation of the international memory of the victims of Nazism, and the inadmissibility of attempts to revive radical nationalist ideologies in society are areas of special sensitivity for modern Belarus and Russia,” noted the Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus.

Highly appreciating the consolidation of joint efforts with the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia in the investigation of criminal cases on the genocide of the Soviet people, the parties are currently carrying out large-scale work involving representatives of law enforcement agencies, archival institutions and the scientific community in order to obtain evidence and clarify the circumstances necessary for a full and comprehensive investigation of the criminal case.
