Prosecutor General opened criminal case on act of terrorism

Belarus’ Prosecutor General Andrei Shved, having considered the materials of criminal cases submitted by the Investigative Committee on crimes against traffic safety and operation of transport, opened a criminal case on an act of terrorism committed by an organised group, under Part 3 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus – as announced today by the Department of Interaction with Mass Media and Editorial Activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office

“At the end of February 2022, in order to destabilise public order in Belarus, as well as in response to calls posted on the Internet, the facts of bringing signalling means and other transport equipment into an unusable state were recorded at the Belarusian Railway infrastructure facilities,” reads the statement.

The Prosecutor General’s Office clarified that such actions, knowingly for the perpetrators, created the danger of death, infliction of bodily harm, accidents, crashes, and other serious consequences, which were expressed, among other things, in violation of the stable operation of railway transport.

To organise a preliminary investigation, the criminal case was transferred to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

“We remind you of the inevitability of responsibility for crimes and warn those who are trying to destabilise public order in the country: the sanction of the above-mentioned criminal norm provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 10 to 25 years, life imprisonment or the death penalty,” informed the Prosecutor General’s Office.
