Political scientist on Union State: there’s equal dialogue
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko called the format of relations established within the framework of the Union State unique in the whole world. In her talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel, Yelizaveta Glushakova, a political scientist and researcher at the Political Science Centre of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, explained the uniqueness of this union.
“A striking feature is the closeness of the two states and the absence of sharp contradictions. In this relationship, the Head of State has always defended the interests of the Belarusian side. The dialogue between the two countries on an equal footing is also unique, despite the disparity in the potential of the two territories and resources. Our President boldly states his position before his Russian counterpart Putin every time, never making concessions to the detriment of his people. An equal dialogue has been established,” the analyst noted.
“There is a difference between our countries. It lies in the area of territory and resource potential. The question is: how can the leaders of such different states talk on equal terms? Meanwhile, Aleksandr Lukashenko has brilliantly positioned our country. This is a vivid example of good politics, a competent leader, who was able to defend his interests and his place in a coalition with the world power. The political weight of the President of Belarus is confirmed by the way he is received by Putin and the way the policy is implemented in the Union State,” the political scientist emphasised.
