PM: it’s realistic to increase Belarus-Kyrgyzstan trade to $500m over next five years
The achievement of such indicators is quite achievable given the fact that there is good dynamics in the implementation of bilateral projects – as stated by Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko at a meeting with Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev in Almaty
“We observe good dynamics of development of the joint project in the field of lift equipment, we have a joint venture in Kyrgyzstan, which successfully fulfils its tasks,” Mr. Golovchenko emphasised. “We expect that taking into account Kyrgyzstan’s great need for replacement and renewal of lift equipment, this enterprise will have a larger package of orders than it has now. Moreover, localisation at the enterprise is quite high, and we are determined to develop it in the future, making the most of the components and assemblies that are manufactured in Kyrgyzstan. The same enterprise is implementing a project to build a rotary car park. I am sure that this will be in great demand by the residents of the Kyrgyz capital.”
At the meeting, Mr. Golovchenko touched upon another important topic: liaisons in the field of ecology, waste management and recycling of secondary material resources. He noted that in August 2024, a turnkey waste processing complex was opened in the city of Karakol, built by a Belarusian company, which will allow not only to comply with high environmental standards, but also to receive valuable secondary material resources for the production of new demanded types of products.
Speaking about the potential of bilateral co-operation, Belarus’ PM noted that Kyrgyzstan is now implementing serious projects, referring to the construction of a hydroelectric power plant, development of new deposits, as well as two major railway projects. In turn, Belarus has serious competences in both designing and providing services for the construction of such facilities. These include engineering, supply of relevant equipment, as well as commissioning and start-up and adjustment works. Mr. Golovchenko emphasised that Belarus is ready to provide any assistance to its partners in this issue. Moreover, there is a reliable financial foundation for this. It should be recalled that in November 2024, the development banks of Belarus and Kyrgyzstan signed an agreement on providing export credits.
According to the Head of Government, in the first eleven months of 2024, the trade turnover between Belarus and Kyrgyzstan increased to the level of 2023 and exceeded $160m.
