Petrishenko: we will carry memory of liberators' feat through centuries
“Heads of CIS states have declared 2025, the year of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight Against Nazism. A corresponding plan was also adopted by instruction of the heads of state and approved by heads of government. It includes about 120 events. These are being actively implemented across all CIS countries. This includes first and foremost the establishment of the anniversary medal: Eighty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. And of course, a series of events across CIS member states: parades, seminars, round tables, gala concerts, honouring ceremonies and various patriotic events focused on youth. The Memory Train project, traditionally conducted by Belarus and Russia, now involves youth from all participating countries. It will launch on June 21st and pass through 15 cities in Belarus and Russia,” Igor Petrishenko stated.
Special attention will traditionally be given to the veterans during this period. “Unfortunately, their numbers grow fewer and fewer every day, and we, all living generations, must give them maximum of our attention and record their memories to pass to future generations,” the CIS First Deputy Secretary General noted. “We are restoring every obelisk, every monument related to those terrible events. We must carry this memory through the centuries, so that the horrors of the Great Patriotic War may never repeat in any form.”
"We will always remember that Victory was achieved by the Soviet people, with all representatives of the Soviet Union’s republics fighting shoulder to shoulder to liberate not only our Motherland but all of Europe from the Nazis. This heroic feat will forever remain in the hearts of current and, most importantly, future generations. This is our strength – the strength of the victorious generation,” Igor Petrishenko added.
