Peskov said UN Security Council needs transformation to increase its efficiency
The United Nations Security Council needs to be transformed to improve its effectiveness – as stated by press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, TASS reports
“The UN Security Council truly needs to be transformed to maximise the effectiveness of this extremely important international body. This requires, of course, a consensus of all participants,” said the Kremlin representative, commenting on Washington’s plans to make a proposal to enlarge the composition of the permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Moreover, according to Dmitry Peskov, the UN Security Council also needs greater inclusivity ‘from the point of view of the participation of precisely those states that have recently acquired an additional role and have a much greater influence on global security, the global economy and are making themselves known more and more loudly’.
“This conversation needs to start, and we have talked about this more than once,” said the Russian leader’s press secretary, noting that this process requires ‘very complex and possibly lengthy negotiations’.
