Deputy Head of Belarus President Administration: we must tell the truth to those who are 'drunk' with alternative history
There are many intelligent and educated people, who know and remember history, who know the true liberators of Europe, in the West as well. They will never fall into this trap, this lie and desire to pit nations against each other once again. Belarus’ role in this matter carries exceptional responsibility. Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Vladimir Pertsov made this statement ahead of an information day at the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Trade and Economics University of Consumer Co-operatives.
When asked why Belarus continues to deeply honour its historical memory while Europe is witnessed to cancel Victory, Vladimir Pertsov noted, “We simply have no moral or indeed basic human right whatsoever to fall for these pernicious trends. We understand that the heirs of fascism were simply waiting for the right moment, when the veterans would pass away, when those who once told us first-hand about the war would be gone. These heirs were waiting for it and then they began to spread an alternative history using modern communication tools — a fake history, utter nonsense and lies to put it into the minds of the young generation. Unfortunately, we see now that for much of that youth they have succeeded in planting this nonsense: streets and geographical landmarks being named after war criminals, their portraits being at the forefront of processions.”
“Thankfully, there are still many intelligent and educated people, who know and remember history, who know the true liberators of Europe. They will never fall into this trap, this lie and desire to pit nations against each other once again. Belarus’ role in this matter carries exceptional responsibility. Because our land witnessed some of the bloodiest battles, the Belarusian people lost every third person. This was genocide of the Belarusian people. As a part of the criminal case investigated by the Prosecutor General's Office we continue to uncover more mass burial sites not only of Red Army soldiers, but of civilians: women and children, all murdered by fascist executioners who believed our ancestors should not exist,” the Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration noted.
“We must shout about it. We must tell this story by every means possible. And we must bring this truth to those who, tragically, have been affected by disinformation, alternative history and other fabrications. So that they may choose not to repeat their ancestors' mistakes,” Mr. Pertsov emphasised.
