Pentagon: US will not be able to deal with Europe’s security
The United States can no longer deal with Europe's security and plans to switch to containing China in the Asia-Pacific region – as announced by US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, TASS reports
At a meeting of the Western contact group co-ordinating arms supplies to Ukraine in Brussels, Mr. Hegseth stressed, “We are also here today to state the following bluntly: clear strategic realities do not allow the United States to focus primarily on the security of Europe… We are facing an equal competitor in the face of Communist China, which has the means and intent to threaten our homeland and [its] key national interests in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.”
According to the Pentagon Chief, ‘the United States sees deterring the war with China in the Pacific as a priority, realising the reality of the shortage [of various means] and making resource exchanges to ensure that deterrence does not fail’. In this regard, he called for the United States and Europe to establish ‘a division of labour’.
"European allies must lead from the front while the United States begins to prioritise the threats listed," Mr. Hegseth concluded.
