Pashinyan hopes allied approaches will be co-ordinated at CSTO summit
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hopes co-ordinated collective interaction on topical issues could be achieved at the CSTO summit in Yerevan, BelTA reports
As he was opening a session of the Collective Security Council, the Prime Minister noted that his country is completing the year of the CSTO presidency, and this period has been very intense. The parties celebrated the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th anniversary of the CSTO creation. "Along with this, the Armenian leader drew attention to the problematic issues existing in and around the CSTO. Despite the anniversaries, our mood is, unfortunately, not at all jubilee," he said.
Nikol Pashinyan updated the issue regarding the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, which has not yet found a final solution. In a similar vein, he also spoke about the facts of escalation on the border between the CSTO allies: Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, “At the same time, I should also note our successful actions, bearing in mind the prompt reaction of the CSTO to an appeal of Kazakhstan’s President Tokayev to support them in restoring law and order in the country in January 2022. In this case, we solved the issue overnight – enabling Kazakhstan to avoid domestic chaos," he added.
"The agenda of today's meeting is rich, and I hope we will be able to co-ordinate allied approaches and achieve co-ordinated collective interaction on topical issues," Nikol Pashinyan said, reminding that Stanislav Zas is completing his three-year activity as Secretary General of the CSTO. The Armenian Prime Minister thanked him for the conscientious work done.
From the beginning of 2023, a representative of Kazakhstan, Imangali Tasmagambetov, will take over the post of Secretary General. In this regard, the Armenian leader invited Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to present him to the Collective Security Council members.
