Parliamentary elections in Thailand to cost $173.3m

An election commission has scheduled the next parliamentary elections in Thailand for May 14th, Nation reports

It is noted that the budget for the parliamentary elections was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, and it will make 5.94bn Bahts ($173.3m).

On March 20th, Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn approved a decree on the dissolution of Parliament for new elections. The document was published a few days before the term of office of the current government would have expired (March 23rd).

In line with Thailand’s Constitution, the date of the elections must be announced within five days. Registration of candidates is expected in April.
