Parkhomchik: BELAZ to produce a 200-tonne excavator

Belarus’ Industry Minister Piotr Parkhomchik focused on this in his talk with BelTA

“The company is working on the production of an excavator weighing 200 tonnes with a bucket capacity of 12 cubic metres. Strength calculations have already been carried out, the development of design documentation is nearing completion, and the requirements for purchased products are being co-ordinated,” noted Mr. Parkhomchik.

Another direction is the expansion of the standard range of mining dump trucks boasting modern engines from alternative manufacturers.

“The use of contemporary internal combustion engines enables us to improve the performance of dump trucks while reducing fuel costs and increasing their mining efficiency. Mining dump trucks with a carrying capacity of 90, 136 and 220 tonnes are equipped with such internal combustion engines. The enterprise plans to continue its work on the use of these engines on the most popular models of dump trucks and special equipment,” added the Industry Minister.

This year, the company plans to manufacture prototypes of BELAZ-75588 dump trucks with a gas turbine engine and BELAZ-7558N with a gas engine with a payload capacity of 90 tonnes.

It is noted that BELAZ has achieved big success in the robotisation of mining equipment.

“Specialists have already started developing the concept of a fully autonomous mining shuttle robot able to move back and forth without turning around. Taking into account the reduction in fuel consumption and tyre wear, this will give the vehicle a serious economic advantage compared to classic mining dump trucks,” underlined Mr. Parkhomchik.

The Minister also spoke about the implementation of the Intellectual Quarry project. According to him, the unmanned mining technology using a robotic complex has now been put into pilot operation. Preparations are currently underway for the second stage of comparative testing of manned and unmanned mining technologies.

“The company is working to offer its customers high-quality machine control and a high level of service in their maintenance. The IMS monitoring system developed by BELAZ specialists enables to track and control the location and technical condition of the dump truck fleet, while assessing the efficiency of its operation and detecting violations of equipment operation from anywhere in the world. Such software has already been launched in mining companies in Armenia, Kazakhstan and India. In the near future, the IMS system will appear in Chile,” summed up Piotr Parkhomchik.
