Over one third of French citizens ready to vote for Le Pen in presidential election, the poll shows
More than a third of French voters are ready to support Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally party, in the 2027 presidential election, TASS reports
A survey carried out by the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOP) found that 35 percent of those questioned intend to vote for Le Pen in the first round. Additionally, 33 percent of respondents said they would support the president of the National Rally party, Jordan Bardella, if Le Pen is unable to run.
Le Pen and Bardella are clearly leading over the candidates from the presidential bloc, which includes former prime ministers Edouard Philippe (19 percent), Gabriel Attal (10 percent) and Francois Bayrou (3 percent). The poll revealed a notable decline in support for French President Emmanuel Macron compared to the 2022 election results. According to the French constitution, Macron will be ineligible to seek another term after completing his second mandate.
The survey indicates shifts within the left-wing camp. Jean-Luc Melenchon, 74, a veteran of election campaigns and founder of the New Popular Front (13 percent), was surpassed for the first time by 45-year-old centre-left candidate Raphaël Glucksmann (16 percent).
Additionally, 13 percent of respondents expressed willingness to vote for Bruno Retailleau, the Interior Minister and leader of the right-wing Republicans party.
The survey was conducted on September 24th-25th and covered 1,127 participants aged 18 and over.
