Over 300,000 people working at nationwide subbotnik sites in Vitebsk Region

More than 300,000 residents of the Vitebsk Region take part in the nationwide subbotnik (a voluntary labour day) – as reported by the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee

Some of the subbotnik participants are working at their workplaces today. Many are engaged in landscaping, beautification and bringing to proper condition sites and territories of settlements, historical and cultural values, memorial complexes, places of military glory, burial places of soldiers and partisans of the Great Patriotic War.

For example, in the Dubrovno District, the voluntary labour campaign gathered local residents near the Rylenki memorial complex, in the Ushachi District – near the Proryv (Breakthrough), in the Dokshity District – near the Shunevka site. In Novopolotsk, the main forces are aimed at restoring order in the floodplain of the Zapadnaya Dvina River and the city park. In Polotsk, the main sites for the subbotnik are the Mound of Immortality, where student brigades are working, and both banks of the Zapadnaya Dvina River. Residents of Orsha will plant lindens and maples in the park of family trees while also being engaged in the beautification of objects and territories of the settlements and forest belts near the residential area. It is planned to plant a forest in the Bolbasovo forestry of the Orsha District. Moreover, an important contribution will be made today by ecologists and employees of the forestry enterprises of the region, who are engaged in planting trees and shrubs near landmark sites.

The voluntary labour day is timed to coincide with the Year of Historical Memory and is part of the Forest Week campaign. The Vitebsk Region will allocate all earned funds for the overhaul of the Khatyn Memorial (with modernisation and restoration elements).
