OSCE Permanent Council briefed on results of Presidential election in Belarus
The discussion of the Presidential election in Belarus was one of the key topics of the OSCE Permanent Council meeting held in Vienna on January 30th, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service
The Belarusian delegation put a separate issue on the agenda of the meeting, within which it informed about the results of the Presidential election and disavowed the critical statements of the Western countries’ representatives.
The attention of those present was drawn to the fact that 484 accredited foreign observers from 52 countries took part in the observation of the Presidential election in Belarus. In addition, election observation was organised by the structures of international organisations and integration associations (CIS, CSTO, Union State, SCO, CICA, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Pan-African Parliament). The observers who took part in the election campaign observation unanimously and authoritatively recognised that the election in Belarus had been conducted in an open and democratic manner.
“Against this background, we regret to note the continuation of baseless criticism of Belarus by some Western countries using clichéd labels and sanctions threats,” the participants of the Belarusian delegation stressed. “Belarus has taken note of the statements of the Western countries in connection with the election in Belarus. We are not surprised by this reaction. We have to note that this statement deliberately distorts the facts and does not take into account the objective realities in Belarus and the world. Moreover, this rhetoric is used against the background of the systemic problems, growing internal disunity, and degradation of the positions of the collective West in the international arena.”
