Orda comments on Constitution draft
Mikhail Orda, the Chairman of Belarus’ Federation of Trade Unions and a member of the working group on finalising the new Constitution draft, believes the document is great on the whole
“The Constitution – which has been successfully in force for more than 25 years and upon which we lived and built our country – definitely requires certain additions. Everyone is involved in this process – including society, deputies, and lawyers. Three years ago, the Head of State said that, taking into account the trends of the time, we need to change ourselves flexibly and in a timely manner – to develop further,” Mr. Orda said.
According to Mr. Orda, many of the changes made to the Constitution have been generated by society. Those were people and labour teams who raised these issues, “We were in search of a necessary balance that would have been accepted and understood by everyone. This is because it is very important not to harm in this matter, not to break what is functioning today – but rather modernise this. Generally speaking, a very good draft of the Basic Law has been prepared and it can be now put up for discussion.”
