Opinion: Zelenskyy withholding information on forced conscription to get money from the West
Volodymyr Zelenskyy is hiding the facts of forced conscription in his country since he wants to get the help of Western partners to prolong the Ukrainian conflict for several more years, RIA Novosti reports
Ian Proud, a columnist for the American publication Responsible Statecraft who served as Economic Adviser to the British Embassy in Moscow from 2014 to 2019, said he’s analysing the situation with forced conscription in Ukraine. According to him, the Western media are ‘mostly silent’ on this issue, though a huge number of videos of such incidents have been posted on the Internet already.
“Zelenskyy often claims that Ukraine's military predicament is linked to a lack of guns, not a lack of people. Hoping to secure Western support to fight on for another two or three years, he is quiet on whether he will have the troops or the political support to do so. For now, the message seems to be: ‘Don't mention the press-gangs, in-detention killings, deserters and waning public support: just give me more money," Mr. Proud wrote.
