Opinion: US views Poland as a possible strike fist for H-hour

The Polish Defence Minister has promised to create the most powerful land army in Europe in two years, and political expert speculated on the chances of Poland to implement this idea, as well as on what it could lead to   

In his talk with Alfa Radio, Mr. Borovik said, “Let's look at these plans from the point of view of logistics. They intend to increase the size of the army to 300 thousand, introduce 1.5 thousand infantry fighting vehicles, and significantly increase the number of anti-aircraft installations. These all need to be produced and pass technical control. Logistics should be created as well. It is really difficult. They plan to buy light tanks – which are supposedly lighter than Ambrams – from Korea, and Poland believes it is easier to operate them in case of land operations. We see the trend that Poland has outlined. There is a political component in any foreign policy activity, when intentions are declared and, accordingly, public opinion is formed within the country, and a message is given within the European Union. Firstly, it is necessary to take into account the elections that will be held in Poland; clashes in the country are not excluded. Maybe someone will be less interested in the Polish state conducting its policy in this way. However, it is also necessary to understand that there are those who want to build Poland ‘from sea to sea’, and they are really interested in expansion. In turn, there are politicians who believe it is necessary to live within the existing borders, and this is enough.”

Mr. Borovik emphasised that modern Poland is a state with a powerful economy – if to judge by European standards. “In certain circles, people are wondering why they should spend money on war. However, we need to understand where Poles draw resources from and take into account the investments coming from the United States. After all, America is pursuing other goals. A strong Poland was needed, so to speak, for the European Union – to weaken the role of Germany, which is now being strangled economically and politically," the expert explained.

Mr. Borovik added that the United States considers Poland as a possible potential strike fist for H-hour, if necessary, “The US has even written in some of its documents that Poland needs to be hooked by the idea of the RzechPospolita and the state ‘from sea to sea’ in order to use it at some point as a counterweight to Germany and Russia in order to potentially foment conflict and weaken the region.”
