Opinion: the will of Belarus’ President and his endurance made it possible to build the foundation of a powerful sovereign state

The main merit of Aleksandr Lukashenko’s presidency is the creation of powerful sovereign and independent Belarus – as noted by a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Sergei Klishevich, in his talk with Alfa Radio

According to the MP, the Belarusian authorities act primarily in the interests of their people, and not someone's financial ambitions. “We are lucky to have such a leader. The human resource is a determining force today. As Stalin once said, personnel determine everything. The will of Belarus’ President, his endurance and sense of the situation enabled us to build the foundation of a powerful sovereign state in the centre of Europe. By now, we have secured our independence in all areas necessary for a normal, standard (in the global sense of this word) state. We are implementing our policy in the interests of the people, so that they become richer and can reach their potential," he emphasised.

Mr. Klishevich added every Belarusian enjoys such an opportunity now – in any sphere, “This is a point to be proud of. It is necessary to make sure that we hand over this state to our children and grandchildren. For them not to lose it, we need to tell them everything, to show negative examples as well, to compare [different situations]. In this way, our youth will see where they live and what they have. Actually, some states lack [the opportunities] Belarus provides. Take Mexico as an example. It is the tenth global economy in agriculture and a G20 member. It has rich natural resources, has no winter, and up to three crops are harvested annually there. However, there are only three months of a maternity leave in this country. When I tell them [residents of Mexico] that Belarus offers a three-year maternity leave, they simply fail to believe. Meanwhile, this fact is already a routine for Belarusians.”

As noted by the deputy, when something becomes commonplace, it is less appreciated. “Therefore, it is important for the media to work in this regard, and the same can be said about Belarus’ ideological vertical and education system – which should also focus on these issues, so as not to destroy and not lose what we have,” he concluded.
